About Daily Mirror News

Daily Mirror News was founded in 2018 by a small group of journalists who had grown frustrated with the consolidation of regional media and the gradual disappearance of local reporting. The idea was straightforward: produce honest, readable journalism about England — its politics, its communities, its contradictions — without the pressures that come with corporate ownership.

We are not affiliated with any national newspaper group. We take no direction from advertisers on editorial matters. Our funding comes from display advertising and, occasionally, reader contributions. That independence is not something we take lightly.

What We Cover

Our focus is England — specifically the stories that national outlets tend to overlook once the initial headlines have faded. Council decisions that reshape communities. NHS pressures felt by patients and staff alike. The slow transformation of high streets. The resilience of rural life. We also cover national politics, but we try to do so with an eye on how Westminster decisions land in real places.

We publish three to five original articles each week. We do not chase traffic at the expense of accuracy. We would rather publish one carefully reported piece than five hastily assembled ones.

Our Team

Margaret Holloway — Senior Political Correspondent. Margaret has covered local government and Westminster politics for fifteen years. She previously worked for a regional daily in Yorkshire before joining Daily Mirror News at its launch.

Daniel Firth — Economics and Business Reporter. Daniel focuses on the practical effects of economic policy on households and small businesses. He holds a degree in economics from the University of Manchester.

Celia Drummond — Communities Editor. Celia's work centres on rural and suburban England — the places that rarely make the national news but where most people actually live. She is based in Lincolnshire.

Tom Ashworth — Transport and Infrastructure Correspondent. Tom has written about transport policy for a decade, with a particular interest in rail and the gap between official announcements and passenger experience.
